Arizona State Senate Files Bipartisan Resolution to Term Limit Congress

Phoenix, AZ – Senator J.D. Mesnard files Senate Concurrent Resolution 1016 (SCR1016) for term limits on Congress. The effort is guided by the nonpartisan, nonprofit, U.S. Term Limits (USTL). Senator J.D. Mesnard is listed as primary sponsor with Senators Kaiser and Miranda. Cosponsors are Senators Bliss, Bravo, Cook, Anna, Consuelo and Lydia Hernandez, Livingston and Seaman.

According to the latest RMG Research poll, 75% of likely voters in Arizona support term limits on Congress, including powerful support among Republicans, Democrats, and independents alike.

The President of U.S. Term Limits, Philip Blumel commended the cosponsors for working across party lines on such an important electoral reform. Blumel stated, “The people of Arizona are lucky to have public servants, from both sides of the aisle, who see what is going on in D.C. and are willing to take action to fix it. By using Article V to term limit Congress, the states can restore citizen representation on Capitol Hill.”

Eleven senators in Arizona have signed the pledge to cosponsor and support the term limits resolution.

When passed in both the state house and senate, Arizona will join the 34 states needed to call for a national convention for the sole purpose of proposing a congressional term limits amendment. Ratification requires three-fourths (38) of the states to become part of the U.S. Constitution.
