U.S. Term Limits Thanks Representative-Elect Eric Sorensen
for Signing Term Limits Pledge with a Billboard in his District
Moline, IL / December 5, 2022 – U.S. Term Limits (U.S.T.L.) congratulates Representative-elect Eric Sorensen on his victory in Illinois’ 17th Congressional District by sponsoring a billboard thanking him for signing his U.S. Term Limits pledge. Sorensen ousted incumbent Cheri Bustos, who did not sign the U.S. Term Limits pledge.
The 14 x 48-foot digital billboard, located near the intersection of John Deere Road and 60th Street in Moline, will run from December 5, 2022 through the end of January 2023.
The pledge, signed by Sorensen in May of this year, promises that once he is sworn in as U.S. Representative, he will cosponsor the resolution to propose a congressional term limits amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The proposal, once passed by Congress and ratified by 38 states, would limit members of the U.S. House of Representatives to 6-years and members of the U.S. Senate to 12-years maximum.
“We want to congratulate Sorensen on his victory in the 17th congressional district of Illinois and his unwavering commitment to imposing term limits on Congress,” said Nick Tomboulides, Executive Director of U.S. Term Limits. “The billboard in his district acknowledges our gratitude for his support on this critical election reform.”
The 2022 election saw a record number of U.S. Term Limits’ pledge signers elected to Congress. Last session, House Joint Resolution 12 (HJR12) and Senate Joint Resolution 3 (SJR3) had 102 cosponsors from both major parties. This upcoming legislature, support is expected to exceed 130, a 28% increase.
“Congressional term limits is not a Democratic or Republican issue; it is an American issue with more than 82% support among voters of all political affiliations,” added Tomboulides. “We are excited that Rep. Sorensen will be a champion for congressional term limits in the upcoming 118th Congress.”
U.S. Term Limits is the oldest and largest grassroots term limits advocacy group in the country. We connect term limits supporters with their legislators and work to pass term limits on all elected officials, particularly on the U.S. Congress.
