Vivek Ramaswamy Pledges to Support Congressional Term Limits Amendment
Washington, D.C. — U.S. Term Limits (USTL), the leader in the national, non-partisan movement to limit terms on elected officials, commends Republican candidate for President of the United States, Vivek Ramaswamy, for signing the U.S. Term Limits Amendment Pledge.
The U.S. Term Limits Amendment Pledge reads, “I, as a candidate for President of the United States, pledge to support congressional passage and state ratification of an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would set term limits on service in the U.S. Senate and U.S. House as there are term limits on the President, as enacted by the 22nd amendment.”
USTL President Philip Blumel commented on the pledge, saying, “We applaud Ramaswamy for signing the congressional term limits pledge.”
The Supreme Court ruled in the 1995 case U.S. Term Limits v. Thornton that congressional term limits may only be achieved by constitutional amendment. While the President does not have a vote nor a veto in this process, he/she has an important pulpit that may be used to get the amendment passed.
Blumel noted, “More than 82% of Americans have rejected the career politician model and want to replace it with citizen leadership. The way to achieve that goal is through a congressional term limits amendment. Vivek knows this and is willing to work to make sure we reach our goal.”
According to the last nationwide poll on term limits conducted by McLaughlin & Associates, conducted in January 2023, term limits enjoys wide bipartisan support. McLaughlin’s analysis states, “Support for term limits is broad and strong across all political, geographic and demographic groups. An overwhelming 82% of voters approve of a Constitutional Amendment that will place term limits on members of Congress.”
U.S. Term Limits is the oldest and largest grassroots term limits advocacy group in the country. Our goal is to educate and connect term limits supporters with their legislators as we work to pass term limits on all elected officials, particularly on the U.S. Congress.
