U.S. Term Limits Applauds Pennsylvania’s “22nd Amendment Day” Resolution
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Term Limits (USTL), the leader in the national, non-partisan movement to limit terms for elected officials, voiced support for H.R. 128, authored by Rep. Ben Waxman (District 182). If passed, the resolution would establish April 29th as “22nd Amendment Day” in Pennsylvania, commemorating the state’s ratification of presidential term limits on that date in 1947. The amendment imposed term limits on the office of the president, prohibiting no one person from serving more than two four-year terms.
“Our non-partisan advocacy group celebrates February 27th each year as National Term Limits Day, when the last required state ratified presidential term limits,” said U.S. Term Limits CEO Nick Tomboulides. “It is so encouraging to see the Pennsylvania legislature looking to establish April 29th as a commemoration of the Commonwealth’s own special role in that achievement.”
USTL State Co-Chair Andy Dinniman commented on the legislation saying, “Presidential term limits have been a bulwark of resistance to unrestrained executive power. Americans of all stripes overwhelmingly approve of presidential term limits. I commend Representative Waxman for bringing forth this bill to remind us of the amendment’s role in preserving a balanced democracy.”

U.S. Term Limits is the largest nonpartisan, nonprofit organization advocating solely on term limits. Our mission is to improve the quality of government with a citizen legislature that closely reflects its constituency and is responsive to the needs of the people it serves. USTL does not require a self-limit on individuals. Our aim is to limit the terms of all members of Congress as an institution. Find out more at termlimits.org.
