Taffy Howard Tapped as South Dakota State Chair for U.S. Term Limits

Pierre, SD – Today, U.S. Term Limits announces that former State Representative and U.S. Air Force Officer Taffy Howard has agreed to be the South Dakota State Chair for U.S. Term Limits. Taffy brings a depth of both private and public service to this role. She has seen first-hand the need for term limits at the federal level and will work tirelessly in her role as South Dakota State Chair to see that South Dakota adopts a resolution for term limits.

“I am very honored to be serving as the South Dakota State Chair for U.S. Term Limits,” said Taffy Howard. “Now more than ever before, the need for term limits is crystal clear. Polls show that the one issue all South Dakotans regardless of political affiliation are united about is the need for congressional term limits.

“Serving in Congress has become for many, a lucrative lifelong job rather than a public service,” concluded Howard. “Term limits will help end career politicians and make Congress work better for all Americans.”

“We are honored to have Taffy leading our efforts in South Dakota to pass term limits for Congress,” said Philip Blumel, President of U.S. Term Limits. “Under her guidance, I am confident we will get our term limits resolution passed in South Dakota.”

Taffy Howard has spent her life in service to her family and her country, from her time as an officer in the United States Air Force, her years as a homeschool mom, to the six years she spent in the South Dakota State House of Representatives. Taffy and her husband, Mark, have lived in Rapid City for over 30 years. They have two sons: Austin, who serves as a Lieutenant in the US Navy, and Matthew, who is currently in Mayo’s Alix School of Medicine.

Taffy received a B.S. in Mathematics from SDSU, and was commissioned (along with her husband) as a Second Lieutenant through the Air Force ROTC program at SDSU and earned her jump wings from the US Army Airborne School at Ft. Benning, GA. After being stationed at Mather AFB, she was stationed at Ellsworth AFB and has made South Dakota her home ever since.

During her time in the South Dakota State Legislature, Taffy served two years as Vice Chair of the House Appropriations Committee and was also a member of the Joint Committee on Appropriations and the House Military and Veteran Affairs Committee for six years. She focused her time promoting limited-government principles and fighting to cut taxes and regulations for the people of South Dakota.
