U.S. Term Limits Calls Out Rep. Dan Meuser with a Billboard for Breaking his Term Limits Pledge

Washington, DC – U.S. Term Limits is calling out U.S. Representative Dan Meuser of Pennsylvania’s 9th Congressional District for breaking his term limits pledge. As part of our voter education program, we believe his constituents deserve to know that he has refused to honor his commitment to support term limits on Congress. To raise awareness, we launched a billboard at E 3rd St. across from TJ Maxx Plaza in Loyalsock Township, Pennsylvania. It will be visible starting today, June 30th, and will continue through at least July 27th.

The U.S. Term Limits pledge calls for members of Congress to cosponsor and vote for the U.S. Term Limits Amendment limiting U.S. Representatives to a lifetime limit of three 2-year terms and U.S. Senators to two 6-year terms. So far this year, Meuser has refused to get on the bill.

U.S. Term Limits has filed legislation in both chambers of Congress. In the House, Representative Ralph Norman (R-SC) introduced House Joint Resolution 12, which has garnered support from 90 cosponsors. In the Senate, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) introduced Senate Joint Resolution 1, backed by 18 cosponsors.

Despite the overwhelming public demand, Representative Meuser refuses to uphold his promise to support congressional term limits. Polling from Pew Research shows that 87% of Americans, regardless of political affiliation, favor term limits for Congress. Additional polling from RMG Research finds that 78% of Pennsylvanian voters specifically support term limits on Congress.

“When elected officials turn their backs on such a decisive majority, it’s up to citizens to remind them who they work for,” stated Nicolas Tomboulides, Chief Executive Officer of U.S. Term Limits. “The people have the power to demand better and to hold their leaders to the promises they make.”

Term limits are the most powerful tool voters have to keep Congress in check. They ensure that no politician can hold power indefinitely or grow disconnected from the people they serve. Politicians like Representative Meuser, who break their promises and resist reform, are exactly why term limits are necessary. Without them, politicians put their own interests first, and voters deserve better.

U.S. Term Limits is the largest nonpartisan, nonprofit organization advocating solely on term limits. Our mission is to improve the quality of government with a citizen legislature that closely reflects its constituency and is responsive to the needs of the people it serves. U.S. Term Limits does not require a self-limit on individuals. Our aim is to limit the terms of all members of Congress as an institution. Find out more at termlimits.org.
