The Linn County Republican Committee Calls on the Iowa State Legislature to Pass an Article V Application for a Congressional Term Limits Amendment

Cedar Rapids, Iowa – On January 18, 2022, the Linn County Republican Committee officially passed the U.S. Term Limits Committee Resolution calling upon the Iowa legislature to pass an Article V application to propose a Term Limits Amendment for members of the U.S. House and Senate.

Guest speaker Rod Blum, former Congressman and current Iowa State Co-Chair for U.S. Term Limits, said, “When I was in Congress, I started the Term Limits Caucus but less than 40 of the 435 members joined it. In fact many of my colleagues would go home to their districts and tell constituents that they supported term limits, but when they got back to D.C. something would change – they would lobby leadership to NOT have a floor vote on term limits.  I highly doubt that Congress is going to term limit themselves.

We need an amendment to the U.S. Constitution, but it will not come from Congress. Thankfully the Framers gave us a remedy for exactly this situation. We need two-thirds of the state legislatures – and Iowa needs to be one of them – to pass an Article V application to propose a Congressional Term Limits Amendment.

We must all remember that the federal government is the child of the States: we’re the parent, we created the federal government. It would be remiss of us to not use the tool that the Founding Fathers gave us to reign in Washington DC.”

The Linn County Republican Committee resolution calls on the Iowa Legislature to pass an Article V application to propose a Congressional Term Limits Amendment. The effort is being spearheaded by the nonpartisan, grassroots nonprofit, U.S. Term Limits.

According to recent national polling, “82% of voters of all parties continue to support term limits, including 87% of Republicans, 83% of Democrats, and 78% of Independents.”
