Powell Was Grasping at Straws

Colin Powell’s excuse for supporting Barack Obama was that Sarah Palin was not qualified to become president, should that be necessary. Powell was grasping at straws, inferring lack of foreign policy experience. In her own way, Governor Palin had no less foreign policy experience than did President Ronald Reagan — i.e., none.
Presidents can likely have thousands of decisions to make as Chief Executive, perhaps dozens in a short period of time. The best preparation for presidential decisions is the set of principles accumulated over one’s life, starting with a knowledge of the difference between right from wrong, good from bad, when to compromise and when to stand on principle. This topic has been explored elsewhere on these pages.
And would Colin Powell have us believe that Barack Obama, a mile wide and one millimeter deep has foreign policy experience? Or any kind of policy experience? A hollow shell indeed.
