Citizens for Term Limits

Newsflash

Newsflash: The United States is broke—dead broke to the tune of $80,000,000,000,000—that’s $80 TRILLION dollars. And yet Congress continues to spend like we have it.

Many Americans feel powerless to affect the spending frenzy in Washington. But there is something you can do: Now is the time to get behind Citizens for Term Limits to forge the support needed to bring a constitutional amendment limiting Congress to a term of six years in each house by the 2010 election cycle.

Imagine for just a moment the United States in which career politicians are a relic of the past:

Congress is comprised of public servants, working Americans who take a leave from their lives and vocations to serve the American people, and then return to their lives. Those who oppose term limits argue that the job today is too complex for the average citizen and that the American people would lose if such a change were to be passed. Indeed; we would lose:

  1. Billions, now trillions, of dollars a year spent on wasteful “pork” programs with the goal of enticing continued constituent support.
  2. “Representatives” who serve themselves first and have forgotten their vow of service to the American people. Take as an example Sen. Schumer’s recent comment about what he defined as “little, tiny, yes porky amendments,” that, “the American people really don’t care.”
  3. Bureaucratic spending programs that limit “spending cuts” to reduce increases in budget.
  4. Skyrocketing deficits and national debt.

What we will gain is a motivated and authentic Citizens’ Congress full of motivation; people who will go to Washington to serve —their neighbors and their country before themselves as we have now. Service is what our Founders envisioned.

Support Citizens for Term Limits
Citizens for Term Limits is the only organized and active voice for term limits with a track record of success. After successfully advocating for a term-limits amendment to Louisiana’s constitution, Citizens for Term Limits has turned its attention to Washington and bringing a federal amendment to the U.S. Constitution to a vote by 2010 limiting the term in each house to six years.
