Citizens for Term Limits

Charlie Meadows, Energetic, Insightful

On the immigration scam and the need to preserve our culture

Ed Note:
Charlie Meadows is the energetic, insightful Chairman of an Oklahoma-based, Republican-oriented organization called OCPAC — Oklahoma Conservative Political Action Committee. What follows is Charlie’s weekly letter of June 3, 2007, with material of parochial Oklahoma interest edited out. I have not read anything, anywhere, that more clearly sets out where we are as a nation facing the illegal immigration issue, threats to our American founding principles, culture and heritage. For now the immigration issue has been squelched — but only until enough politicians see an opportunity to make political hay by reviving it..

— Rense Johnson, Chairman, Citizens for Term Limits.

This past week we saw President Bush deliver as damaging insult toward his base of supporters as he rushes, let me say it again, rushes head long toward the edge of a cliff in his drive to see a harmful comprehensive immigration bill passed by Congress. Former Reagan speech writer Peggy Noonan wrote a blistering article about the wedge being driven between the grass roots Republicans and the open border, globalist elites like Bush and his advisers who managed to gain control of the Republican party. In no uncertain terms, she made it clear that conservative Republicans must re-gain control of our party.

One small part of President Bush’s challenge to opponents of the Senate bill now being discussed in Congress was, to give them a chance to prove this measure could work. Sorry Mr. Bush, Congress passed a comprehensive measure in 1986 to solve this problem. Therefore the federal government has proven through the final years of President Reagan’s term in office along with 4 years of daddy Bush, 8 years of Bill Clinton and now over 6 years of your administration that you don’t deserve another chance, since you still haven’t secured our borders. Further more, patriotic Americans who care about preserving America’s culture, sovereignty and nationalism know you don’t want our border secured. We don’t trust you or your fellow open borders crowd.

My I suggest the whole discussion about “jobs” and the “economy” regarding the illegal aliens in America is a secondary issue. The real issue is the preservation of our culture.

Truth is, cultures and borders are not permanent. People must be vigilant and work to preserve their culture. If a culture becomes too corrupt (all cultures wrestle with corruption) or if they become militarily weak they become vulnerable to destruction, either from within or from an outside invasion.

The more the United States moves away from the moral standards established by our founding fathers the more we move toward corruption within. With a large portion of the church in America bound in the thralls of carnality and satiated with pleasures, its condition has become anemic as far as being substantive salt and light. This has led to our society becoming excessively tolerant and politically correct. We are a society badly divided, with little ability to distinguish right
from wrong and lacking the will to make important decisions to preserve our culture.

We are currently being invaded, it just isn’t a military invasion. We are having massive numbers people coming here to access our prosperity, but with no intention of adapting to our culture and many have no intentions of learning the English language. Four states, (Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California) no longer have an ethnic majority but are compilations of minorities. At the current rate of change, it is just a matter of a few years before the populations in
those states will become a majority Hispanic, mostly of Mexican decent. Contained in those states are powerful elements of radical extremists who want to bring certain areas of the U.S. back under the jurisdiction of Mexico or simply create a new nation. Ideas have consequences and those ideas have legs.

The future of the Republican party is at stake here. Supporters of the comprehensive immigration bill argue that if Republicans don’t placate the desires of the already large Hispanic population in this country, that part of our society may vote in mass for Democrats. I say the danger of that is the result of allowing this problem to fester for years to the point of where it is today. If immigrants wanting to become American citizens really learned of the principles of our founding fathers there is no way they would become Democrats. Americanism and Christianity would trump over ethnic background.
Republicans need to worry more about running off their base than hopefully attracting the Hispanic voters by trying to out-Democrat the Democrats.

One of the things . . . called for by [last week’s] guest was a moratorium on immigration for maybe 10 years to let everything settle out. I believe that to be a good idea, though the amount of time is debatable. If we were to do something like that we should hope for an awakening to patriotism toward the ideals of Americanism. We don’t just have a problem with immigrants being here and having no understanding of Americanism. We have the world’s most expensive system for primary and secondary education. However, it is producing a third rate job of educating, as we have most citizens born in America with little understanding of American history or civics. How can immigrants assimilate into a culture the citizens don’t even understand?

Bottom line, concerned and patriotic American citizens, regardless of their race or ethnic background, must keep the pressure on Congress to secure our borders BEFORE we attempt any other legislation regarding immigration or the invasion of illegal aliens. Right now the battle field is in the U.S. Senate, so keep calling Senators Coburn and Inhofe and urge them to filibuster this measure if it comes to a final vote in the Senate.
