Campaign Finance Reform -- Washington Style
by Rense Johnson, Chairman, Citizens for Term Limits
How does this benefit America?
No doubt some time soon Senator McCain will have his campaign finance reform bill called up for debate. Hearings will be televised. We will watch members of Congress posturing and pontificating that they are expressing the will of the American People.
They will be expressing their own will, not that of the American people. The politicians know the choice of the American people. They know what Americans want, and want by overwhelming margins: that is meaningful term limits.
If we want campaign finance reform here’s how: Keep reelection campaigns to a minimum with minimum term limits, and give us a Congress that is sensitive to the will of the people.
Yes, campaign reform is a hot issue. Politicians posture about it. Hearings will be held and votes taken. But the best and most effective campaign reform is term limits for Congress. Nothing more meaningful can come out of Congress. Republicans have already promised it. Remember?
Term limits ARE in fact campaign reform.
